Even though liposuction is a simple-looking procedure, there are a variety of options. We perform this operation using the most gentle method for fat removal according to current knowledge: Water-jet assisted liposuction (WAL).
A combination with Bodytite is ideal for tightening loose connective tissue.
Liposuction is an aesthetic operation. In general, there is no time pressure. Each patient will therefore choose the time for liposuction for their own reasons. In terms of timing, this operation can be performed at any time of the year. As it is necessary to wear compression garments after the operation, many patients choose to have it in the cooler months.
For many, the step towards a diet or change in diet is difficult and requires a jump-start. Liposuction often helps here as motivation.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that takes about an hour and a half, depending on the amount of fat and the regions. After you have determined your “regions” for liposuction during a detailed initial consultation, these will be marked accordingly before the operation. If any changes are required shortly before the operation, we will be happy to go through these during the obligatory consultation shortly before the start of the operation.
We perform this operation using the most gentle method of fat removal according to current knowledge: Water-jet assisted liposuction (WAL).
This involves inserting a blunt cannula through approx. 4 mm puncture points in inconspicuous areas.
This creates a fan-shaped jet that removes the fat cells from the tissue. At the same time, the detached cells are suctioned out.
The infiltrated water also allows the suctioned areas to be assessed in order to minimize the risk of dents and grooves. The pressure with which the area is flooded is so gentle that the connective tissue structures are not damaged and there is virtually no pain.
The fat/water mixture is then collected in a sterile container and discarded if it is not to be used for an autologous fat transplant. Immediately after liposuction, the small puncture sites are closed with a thin suture and covered with an absorbent plaster bandage. A compression garment specially measured for you will be put on while you are still on the operating table. This prevents water retention in the surrounding tissue and thus prevents swelling.
There are various conservative and surgical alternatives for many operations. It is therefore necessary to consider these carefully before any surgical intervention. If the use of a scalpel can be dispensed with due to conservative alternatives, these are of course preferable.
In the case of liposuction, there is always the alternative of lifestyle changes including a strict diet.
Alternatively, cryolipolysis is an option. This is a non-invasive method of fat reduction. The fat tissue is briefly exposed to cold in order to initiate the death of the fat cells.
Although this pain-free method is not as radical and effective as conventional liposuction, it offers an excellent alternative for sensitive patients who wish to avoid a scalpel, sedation and surgery.
The Bodytite procedure is also frequently used. In this procedure, the fatty tissue is melted using heat and then suctioned out. The advantage is the tightening of the connective tissue and the skin.
Ultrasound and vibration techniques are also available. After a long test phase and the evaluation of scientific studies, we have focused on the procedures described.
Liposuction is a procedure with relatively few complications. If performed carefully, the risk of permanent consequences is very low. As with all surgical procedures, there may be minimal pain, comparable to moderate muscle soreness, as well as swelling and hematomas. Water retention occurs after the operation, which can cause swelling and tenderness. As a preventative measure, it is advisable to wear compression garments for 4 – 6 weeks after the operation. It is put on the patient immediately after the operation.
Other possible complications in the donor area can include dents and irregularities. As a preventive measure, strict care is taken during the operation to ensure that the areas are evenly canceled. Nevertheless, minimal irregularities may remain. To minimize the risk of irregularities in the suctioned areas after the operation, we recommend consistently wearing compression garments and lipomassages by your physiotherapist.
The use of cannulas may cause the abdominal wall to be pierced, resulting in injury to abdominal organs. This is an emergency situation that would require immediate surgical treatment. However, the cannulas used here are blunt and are guided through the tissue with the utmost care in controlled movements.
Persistent swelling and lymphatic drainage disorders rarely occur. This is not a permanent condition. Nevertheless, those affected describe this development as unpleasant. Consistent lipomassage shortly after the operation can have a preventative effect.
In the first 24-48 hours, you will notice moderate swelling, bruising (especially at the donor site), mild pain and minimal discomfort. It is normal that you will need mild painkillers. Most patients take a day off on the first day after the operation to give the body the rest it needs to recover quickly. After 48 hours you will be able to shower normally with “shower plasters”.
If you do not have to do any heavy physical work, you will probably be able to return to work from the 3rd/4th day after the operation.
After about a month, the majority of patients feel as they did before. Slight bruising and any swelling will have largely disappeared.
All sporting activities are possible again after 2-3 weeks.
Of course, these time recommendations are guidelines based on our experience, which sometimes require individual adjustment.
Your body will take the time it needs.
The operation itself is painless due to the sedation.
Immediately after the procedure, the painkillers will continue to have an effect, so that after a few hours you may feel moderate pain in the areas that have been suctioned.
Swelling can also cause a feeling of tightness for the first 2-3 days. We counteract this as best as possible by putting your compression garment on immediately after the operation. Unfortunately, a slightly immobilizing feeling cannot always be avoided.

A surgical procedure requires a certain amount of planning and organization not only for the surgical team, but also for the patient, both before and after the operation. It is important that you are well prepared and know what to expect. This allows you to concentrate fully on enjoying the results.
One of the most important questions before any surgical procedure is the “why”. You should be clear about why you want to have surgery in the first place. Once you have answered this question and made a decision, the following questions should definitely be clarified: How? By whom? When?
I will be delighted if you find your way to my surgery and would like to be operated on by me. However, I also recommend all my patients to get a second opinion. You should be absolutely sure about the date and surgeon.
